This sprawling 1,400-acre park near the communities of South El Monte, Rosemead, and Montebello provides fishing lakes, comfort stations, picnicking areas, playgrounds, a nature center, an equestrian facility, trails, a multipurpose athletic complex, a military museum, soccer fields, volleyball courts, and archery, skeet, pistol and trap ranges. Tennis courts are also provided and include a pro shop. Rentals are available for boats, surreys, bikes and group area picnics. Special events include carnivals, festivals and dog shows.

This year's (2009) marathon is unique not because it was held in May instead of the usual March but because my son Edmond made his maiden attempt to run it. He finished 8879th out of the 26,000 runners. Not bad for a first attempt.

Xian is the capital of Shaanxi province, located in the southern part of the Guanzhong Plain. With the Quinling Mountains to the south and the Weihe River to the north, it is a favorable geographical location surrounded by water and hills. During Xian's 3,100 year development, 13 dynasties placed their capitals there. Highlights of our trip included the Museum of Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses, praised as 'the eighth major miracle of the world'; the City Wall , the largest and most intact Ming Dynasty castle in the world; the Farmen Temple, and the marvelous Mt. Huashan, one of the five best know mountains in Chinas, famous for its breath-taking cliffs .
